Abstract

A case of giant pituitary chromophobe adenoma from the patient of 36 years old male is reported. Clinically, the patient complained of fronto-temporal headache, visual disturbance, loss of libido and hemiparesis of extremities for 2 year period.
X-ray examination of the skull revealed widening of sella turcica with evidence of local bone destruction, and the widening of formaina ovale and rotundum.
Postmortem examination disclosed a large multilobated tumor largely located outside of the sella turcica extending to right middle cerebral fossa with erosion of surrounding bony structure and compressing the third ventricle, hypothalamus, and optic chiasm. Histologically, the tumor consisted of chromophobe cells with large area of necrosis and cystic change. There was good encapsulation and no evidence of cellular atypism was noted.
When a pituitary adenoma spread outside of sella turcica, it is rather difficult to make an accurate diagnosis clinically, and particularly if the tumor is large and compress many different structures.
